What is Autism?

It is a condition related to brain developmental disorder that impact how a child perceives socialize and learn. It begins in early childhood mostly children’s show symptoms in the age of first year and eventually causes problems in functioning, family, school and work. It is four times more common in boys as compared to girls.

2020 report of the CDC shows that out of 54 children 1 is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder in the US. While there is no cure for autism spectrum disorder, early treatment can make a big difference in the lives of many children.

Each child with autism spectrum disorder is likely to have a unique pattern of behavior and level of severity from low functioning to high functioning.

Some children show symptoms of autism in early infancy Such as –

• Lack of response to their name
• Cannot identify caregivers
• Has Delayed Speech or no speak
• Not to hear his or her name
• Prefers playing alone
• Resist hugging
• Poor eye contact and lack of facial expression

Autism spectrum disorder has no single known cause. Its causes may vary on the basis of variety and complexity. There are both genetics and environmental, which play a significant role.

Behavior, skills and language development can be improved by timely diagnosis and intervention. It is more important for the teacher to identify the special needs of a special child and teach him to fulfill his/her learning needs.
